Breathing Air Cylinders
In Germany, breathing air cylinders for divers must bear the mark "für Tauchgeräte" (for diving). Permitted abbreviations include "Druckluft-TG" and "Preßluft-TG".
Breathing air cylinders for respirators (for fire services, etc.) must bear the mark "für Atemschutzgeräte" (for respirators). Permitted abbreviations include "Druckluft-AG" and "Preßluft-AG".
These cylinders may only be filled with breathing air (no NITROX, etc.).
Unique connections for breathing air cylinders have been designed to avoid confusion.
The cylinders require TÜV-approval (German technical inspection authority) every two years.
The following values are stamped into the shoulder of the cylinder:
- index indicating the strength of the material
- index indicating the temperature resistance
- water capacity
- testing pressure
- cylinder weight
- approval no. for the cylinder design
- country of origin
- manufacturer's mark
- serial no.
- test centre no.
- testing medium
- maximum pressure
- date of first inspection (month and year)
- consecutive inspections (month and year)
The technical rules for gases (Technische Regeln Gase TRG2) apply accordingly.
